Change Order

An amendment to the construction contract signed by the owner, architect, and contractor authorizing a change in the work, an adjustment in the contract sum or the contract time, or both.

Field Report

A written record that documents what the architect observed during a site visit.

Typically created during construction administration or initial field surveys

Site Visit

The architect’s visit to the construction site to observe the progress of the work.

Any observable deviations from the contract documents are recorded in a field report.

Fast Track

An expedited process where some design services and construction activities overlap as a way to complete the project at a faster pace.

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)

An analysis that evaluates the total environmental impacts of a product, system, or building throughout its entire life cycle, from material extraction and construction through operation, replacement, and end-of-life disposal.

Deficiencies

A shortcoming or fault.

If this regards work performed by the contractor, it must be noted by the architect in a field report.

Minor Change in the Work

A change to the work, typically issued by the architect as an Architect’s Supplemental Instructions (ASI), that does not affect the contract sum or contract time.

Architect’s Supplemental Instructions (ASI)

A written instruction issued by the architect for minor changes that do not affect the contract sum or schedule.

Construction Change Directive (CCD)

A written directive issued by the owner and architect that requires the contractor to proceed with a change in the work when the parties have not yet agreed on the associated adjustment to the contact time or cost.
