What does WHMIS stand for
workplace hazardous materials information system, a symbol plus a red diamond border to convey specific info about hazards of a CHEMICAL, there are 4 heatlh hazards, 4 physical hazards, 1 environmental hazard
what does HHPS stand for
hazardous household product safety, found on cleaning materials, there are four main symbols indicating type of hazards the material creates, for HHPS the more sides on the share the more dangerous
corrosion (corrosive to skin/eye, can cause burns)
irritant (irritant to skin and eyes, cause less serious effects immediately, respiratory tract irritant)
health hazard (can cause serious health effects, carcinogen aka causes cancer, reproductive toxicity, respiratory sensitizer, target organ toxicity)
toxic (can cause death or toxic after short exposure small amounts)
flammable (fire hazard)
oxidizer (substance that is not combustible, but may aid in the combustion of another substance by yielding oxygen, also if u look at the symbol it has and O in it so therefore oxygen —> oxidzier)
compressed gas (gas under pressure)
explosive (product can possibly explode, self-reactive)
environmental toxicity (can cause damage to an aquatic environment)
biohazards infectious material (organisms or toxins that can cause disease in people or animals)
poison (will be immediately harmful if ingested, contact the poison control department or call 911 asap)
flammable (can ignite causing fire, know the proper type of extinguisher to use on each material that has this symbol)
explosive (may explode if placed near fire or if dropped, know the proper storage conditions and the type of extinguisher to use should an explosion or fire occur)
corrosive (can cause severe burns to skin, destroy clothing or be harmful if their fumes are inhaled, should these materials touch your skin rinse immdiately with lots of cold water)
