validity (develop rapport), ability to probe deeper and ask further questions, gain a better understanding,, understand different types of identity
What are the limitations of unstructured interviews?
more expensive (take longer), more training, talk to less people, increased chance of a privacy breach, interviewer bias, hathorne effect and social desirability bias

reluctant to take part, good at impression management, show bias to school policies and procedures

unique from person to person, depends on self identification, where is surveyed and resposne rate
How do we measure people’s attitudes and tastes?
qualatative data, questionnaires and interviews but then can be changed through content analysis
What are the issues with cultural capitals and habitus?
tricky to analyse as they’re hard to operationalise
What are the issues with culture and self completion questionnaires?
what somebody may see as high culture, others may not
How can attitudes and tastes be measured?
closed questions, but will lead to the imposition of reponses by the researcher and they will vary across social groups
How may parental attitudes effect school views?
may depend on own experiences (eg bullying)
How will cultural backgrounds differ?
across social class and ethnicity, some groups will be more pro-education whilst other may not see education as important

tricky to distribute, repsonse rate may be low, how do they reach people?
