Galvanometer
An instrument for detecting and measuring electric current.
Ohm's Law
A law stating that the current through a conductor between two points is directly proportional to the voltage across the two points.
Internal Resistance (r)
The resistance within a galvanometer that affects the current readings.
Full-scale deflection (Ig)
The maximum current that results in the full-scale reading on the galvanometer.
Variable Resistor
A resistor whose resistance can be adjusted to vary the current in a circuit.
Voltmeter
An instrument used to measure the potential difference between two points in an electric circuit.
Multiplier Resistance (M)
Resistance added to a voltmeter to allow it to measure higher voltages.
Ammeter
An instrument used to measure electric current in a circuit.
Shunt Resistance
A low resistance connected in parallel with an ammeter to allow part of the current to bypass the meter.
Proportionality in Values
The relationship where values increase or decrease together in a constant ratio.
