Germinal
(0-2 weeks) Conception to implantation
Single cell called a Zygote, Zygote replicates itself until it forms a ball of cells with an inner and outer layer known as a blastocyst, cells start taking on specialised roles like skin or heart cells.
Embryonic
(3-8 weeks) Implantation to organ development
Most critical stage, brain and spinal cords are formed, bone begins to replace cartilage
Fetal
(9 weeks to birth) More development, sensory experiences
Largest stage characterised by rapid growth
Movement begins
Senses and organs start working
