What are the fontanels (cartilaginous areas) on a fetal skull?

  • Anterior fontanel

  • Posterior fontanel

  • Sphenoid fontanel

  • Mastoid fontanel

14
New cards

What is a fontanel?

The “soft spots” on an infants head. The bones of the head don’t have enough SA to cover the entirety of the head, so the fontanels fill in the gaps with cartilage until they harden around 15 months of age
