Tectonic Plates
Large sections of the Earth's crust that move and interact with each other.
Fossil Record
Remains of organisms preserved in geological formations, used to understand the history of Earth.
Magnetic Materials
Materials that are influenced by magnetic fields, useful in studying Earth's geological past.
Displacement Reaction
A chemical reaction in which one element replaces another in a compound.
Current
The flow of electric charge, measured in amperes.
Photosynthesis
The process by which green plants and some other organisms use sunlight to synthesize foods from carbon dioxide and water.
Chemical Formula
A representation of a substance using symbols for its constituent elements and their ratios.
Thermal Energy
The total energy of all the particles in a substance, related to temperature.
Respiration
The biochemical process in which organisms convert food into energy.
Decomposition
The process by which organic substances are broken down into simpler organic or inorganic matter.
Combustion
A chemical reaction that involves the burning of a substance in oxygen to produce heat and light.
Hypothesis
A proposed explanation for a phenomenon, subject to testing.
Safety Hazard
Any condition that poses a risk to health or safety.
Ion
An atom or molecule that has gained or lost one or more electrons, thus acquiring a charge.
Loudness
A perceptual measure of sound intensity, influenced by the amplitude of sound waves.
Ecosystem
A biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment.
Electric Circuit
A closed loop that allows electric current to flow, consisting of a power source and components.
Proton
A positively charged particle located in the nucleus of an atom.
Neutron
A non-charged particle found in the nucleus of an atom.
Electron
A negatively charged particle that orbits the nucleus of an atom.
