Sex

Social Construct

A concept, such as gender, that is created by society rather than being an inherent biological fact.

SOGIESC

An acronym standing for Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression, and Sex Characteristics.

Sexual Orientation

A person's capacity for profound emotional, affectional, and sexual attraction to, and intimate relations with, others; answers 'To whom am I attracted?'

Heterosexual

An individual who is attracted to a person of the different or opposite gender identity.

Homosexual

An individual who is attracted to a person of the same sex or gender, also referred to as Gay or Lesbian.

Bisexual

An individual attracted to persons of two or more genders, or both men and women.

Pansexual

An individual attracted to people of all genders or who does not concern gender when attracted toward someone.

Asexual

A person who does not experience sexual attraction to anyone.

Polysexual

An individual attracted to romantic and sexual partners of many, but not all, genders, sexes, or sexual identities.

Gender Identity

A person's deeply felt internal and individual experience of gender, which may or may not correspond with the sex assigned at birth; answers the question 'Who am I?'

Cisgender

A person whose gender identity and biological sex assigned at birth are matched.

Transgender

A person whose gender identity does not align with or is different from the sex assigned at birth.

Gender Fluid

A person who may always feel like a mix of the two traditional genders, man and woman.

Agender

A person without a gender identity or who does not identify with a particular gender.

Gender Expression

The way in which a person expresses gender identity through appearance, dress, behavior, and demeanor.

Philippine Commission on Women

The national agency identified as the authority on women's rights and gender equality in the Philippines, involved in the National GAD Resource Program.

Gender Presentation

Acted behaviors associated with masculinity and femininity, such as speech, dress, and movement.

Gender Roles

The social roles expected of men and women in a particular society as defined by cultural norms.
