Gateway

A gateway connects two different types of network.

Router

A router stores the addresses of all devices that are connected to it so that it can forward network traffic to its destination using the quickest route

Switch

A switch connects devices on a network using cabling and ports.

Booster

A booster is used to amplify the signal in a network so that its range can be extended.

WAP

A wireless access point allows devices with Wi-Fi connectivity to connect to a wired network

Modem

a device that lets computers or other devices connect to the internet through a telephone or cable line.

How does an inkjet printer work

Inkjet printers use cartridges containing different colours of ink. Tiny dots of these inks are sprayed by nozzles onto the paper to form images or text.

How do laser printers work?

Laser printers contain a drum that holds electrical charge. A laser is used to discharge certain points on the drum and draw an image. Electrically charged toner is attracted to the discharged points of the drum and is heated onto the paper that passes over the drum.

The print is made by impacting the paper through a ribbon of ink.

How do dot matrix printers make a lot of copies at the same time

The paper often has a number of carbon copy layers, so it can make several copies at the same time.
