What are people dependant on nature for?
Nature areas for our survival (provides air and water. rely on animals and crops for pollination and food)
mental and physical well-being (recreational activities, helps connect people with nature)
what do nature depend on people for?
people ensure that plants and animals thrive
Benefits of people and nature
environmental protection (raise awareness and encourage positive behavior. organise or participate in conservation efforts)
Lowering air temp (shortwave radiation and long wave radiation. evapotranspiration)
Removal of pollutants (vegetation absorb air pollutants and is washed to the ground when it rains)
provision of recreational spaces
what is shortwave radiation?
Shortwave radiation is the heat on the ground.
trees minimise shortwave radiation. (block the suns rays from hitting the ground)
what is long wave radiation?
long wave radiation is when the heat from the ground goes up to space
trees minimise shortwave radiation in turn minimising long wave radiation.
What is evapotranspiration?
evapotranspiration is when the vegetation cools the air (by sweating)
water that plants absorb is released into the air as water vapour.
process uses heat from the ground then cooling it down.
disadvantages of people and nature
causing soil erosion and damaging of vegetation by the hikers or cyclists when hiking a trail. (causes compacted soil preventing water from flowing through, causing soil erosion.
worsening pollution and disturbing wildlife. (people litter. animal think food. animal eat. animal get injured/die. if people keep feeding, animal see people as food giver. this alters animals behaviors. lose their hunting skills. start venturing out of natural habitats.
wildlife may harm people. (urban expansion causes reduction of natural habitat. increase wildlife encounters. overpopulation 😱)
