Right Atrium
Upper right chamber; receives deoxygenated blood from superior and inferior vena cava.

Left Atrium
Upper left chamber; receives oxygenated blood from pulmonary veins.

Right Ventricle
Lower right chamber; pumps deoxygenated blood to lungs through pulmonary semilunar valve.

Left Ventricle
Lower left chamber; pumps oxygenated blood to body through aortic semilunar valve; thickest wall.

Tricuspid Valve
Between right atrium and right ventricle; prevents backflow into right atrium.

Bicuspid (Mitral) Valve
Between left atrium and left ventricle; prevents backflow into left atrium.

Pulmonary Semilunar Valve
Between right ventricle and pulmonary trunk; prevents backflow into right ventricle.

Aortic Semilunar Valve
Between left ventricle and ascending aorta; prevents backflow into left ventricle.

Superior Vena Cava
Returns deoxygenated blood from upper body to right atrium.

Inferior Vena Cava
Returns deoxygenated blood from lower body to right atrium.

Pulmonary Trunk
Carries deoxygenated blood from right ventricle; splits into pulmonary arteries.

Pulmonary Arteries(4)
Carry deoxygenated blood from heart to lungs.
Pulmonary Veins(2)
Carry oxygenated blood from lungs to left atrium.
Aorta

Ascending Aorta
First part of aorta; receives blood directly from left ventricle.

Aortic Arch
Curved portion of aorta; gives branches to head, neck, and arms.

Descending Aorta
Supplies blood to thorax, abdomen, and lower body.

Interventricular Septum
Wall separating right and left ventricles; prevents mixing of blood.
Base of Heart
Broad superior portion where great vessels attach.

Apex of Heart
Pointed inferior tip formed mostly by left ventricle; points left.

Visceral Pericardium (Epicardium)
Inner
Parietal Pericardium
Outer layer of pericardial sac lining; protects heart
Right Coronary Artery
Supplies right atrium, right ventricle, and part of septum.

Left Coronary Artery
Supplies left atrium, left ventricle, and most of septum; branches into LAD and circumflex

Ligamentum Arteriosum
Adult remnant of fetal ductus arteriosus; connects pulmonary trunk to aortic arch.

Which side of the heart pumps to lungs?
Right side (right ventricle → pulmonary trunk → lungs).
Which side of the heart pumps to body?
Left side (left ventricle → aorta → body)
Only arteries carrying deoxygenated blood?
Pulmonary arteries
Only veins carrying oxygenated blood?
Pulmonary veins
