To determine the age at which children begin to demonstrate an awareness of their own reflection in a mirror

  1. Infants nose was maked red (with a sticker or lipstick) without its knowing

  2. Infant was then placed in front of a mirror

  3. If the child showed recognition that the mark was there (e.g. they touched the red area), then they are considered to be self-awareness
