Antecedent Interventions
Implementing interventions based on the modification of antecedents, such as motivational operations and discriminative stimuli.
Discrimination Training
Reinforcing occurrences of a behavior in the presence of one stimulus condition and not in the presence of another.
Shaping
The process of reinforcing gradual changes in behavior so that the behavior begins to resemble the desired behavior.
Prompts
Stimuli added to increase the likelihood that a person will engage in or respond with the correct behavior.
Prompt Fading
The process of reducing the level of prompt required until the learner achieves an independent response.
Single Stimulus
Recording how long a learner engages with a single item to determine which item is most preferred.
Differential Reinforcement of Alternative Behavior (DRA)
Reinforcement given when the learner uses a different, positive behavior.
Differential Reinforcement of Incompatible Behavior (DRI)
Reinforcement given when the learner performs a behavior that cannot occur simultaneously with the problem behavior.
Data Points
Representations of the data collected.
Baseline
Data collected before the implementation of an intervention.
X-Axis
Horizontal axis representing time in a graph.
Y-Axis
Vertical axis representing the measurement method in a graph.
Condition Change Lines
Vertical lines indicating when an intervention is added or removed.
Natural Environment Teaching (NET)
Activities that follow the learner's motivation and are led by the learner.
Behavior Chains
Sequences of individual behaviors that are linked together to form a complex behavior.
Task Analysis
The breakdown of complex steps into smaller, sequential steps.
Forward Chaining
Teaching beginning with the first step in the chain.
Backward Chaining
Teaching beginning with the last step in the chain, prompting all but the last step completely.
Total Task Chaining
Teaching all steps while providing prompting as needed.
Differential Reinforcement
Providing rewards for desired behaviors, not rewarding undesired behaviors.
Differential Reinforcement of Other Behavior
Reinforcement given when the learner does not engage in the problem behavior for a specified period.
Paired Stimulus/Forced Choice
Presenting two items and having the patient choose one.
Multiple Stimulus with Replacement (MSW)
Presenting three or more items one at a time and identifying the one chosen most frequently.
Multiple Stimulus without Replacement (MSWO)
Presenting three or more items at once, removing chosen items in subsequent rounds.
ABC Data
Provides insights into why a behavior occurs based on antecedents, behavior, and consequences.
Discrete Trial Teaching (DTT)
A method of teaching using repeated, clearly defined trials in a structured, teacher-led setting.
Incidental Teaching
A type of NET where the RBT sets up the environment to create opportunities for the learner to practice skills.
