Changing places

Refers to how places are dynamic and subject to constant change in their material structure and meaning as people, ideas, and objects pass in and out of space and time.

Physical geography (characteristic of a place)

Physical attributes that form a place's identity at a local scale, including altitude, slope angle, aspect, drainage, and geology.

Demography (characteristic of a place)

Population factors that contribute to a place's local identity, such as number of inhabitants, age, gender, and ethnicity.

Socio-economic characteristics

Social and economic attributes that shape the identity of a place, including employment, income, family status, and education.

Cultural characteristics

Cultural attributes shaping a place's identity at a local scale, including religion, local traditions, local scale, and histories.
