Information
Data that has been processed in such a way to be meaningful to the person or organization who receives it, serving as the main source used in the decision-making process.
Data
The primary raw material consisting of raw, unorganized facts (such as numbers, images, letters, arts, and sounds) that cannot be used on their own for decision-making.
Data Life Cycle
The set of related activities involved in collecting and maintaining data, consisting of three main phases: Data Creation, Management, and Removal of obsolete data.
Data Acquisition
A method of data creation that involves acquiring already existing data which has been produced outside the organization.
Data Entry
A method of data creation where an employee in the organization manually enters data into the system.
Data Capture
A method of data creation that involves capturing data directly from devices.
Data Management
A set of administrative tasks in the data life cycle that includes validating data, storing data inside the computer, protecting data, keeping data securely, and making them accessible for users.
Obsolete Data
Outdated data that are not necessary for the present requirements of an institution and need to be removed from information systems without maintaining further.
Quantitative Data
Data that can be expressed using measurement units (such as length, height, area, volume, weight, speed, temperature, sound levels, and cost), can be expressed in numerical terms, and can be subjected to arithmetical processes.
Discrete Data
A classification of quantitative data that consists of whole numbers, such as 5 and 6.
Continuous Data
A classification of quantitative data that consists of fractional or continuous values, such as 3.265, mass, height, length, time, date, and age.
Qualitative Data
Data that provides insights and understanding about a particular problem and can be approximated but cannot be computed or expressed quantitatively, such as health condition, shape, or color.
Manual Data Processing
A data processing method performed by human beings using pen and papers without computers, where data is transferred manually.
