Intercarpal joints
Between carpal bones
Synovial plane
Mvmt: small amount of gliding movements between carpal bones

Intercarpal joint - pisiform
Articulates with the triquetrum
Anchored to the hamate by the pisiform ligament and to the base of the 5th metacarpal by the pisometacarpal ligament

Midcarpal joints
Formed between carpal rows
Hinge type synovial joint
Mvmt: flexion/extension, abduction/adduction

Carpometacarpal joints
Formed between the distal row of carpal bones with the base of metacarpals in the front
Carpometacarpal joints 2-5
Distal rows of carpals, 2-5 metacarpals in front
Plane
Dorsal and palmar CMC ligaments
Mvmt: gliding movement
- 2-3 almost no movement. 4 some. 5 the most

CMC joint of the thumb
Saddle
Mvmt: adduction.abduction, flexion/extension, opposition
Thumb opposition
Phase 1: thumb abduction to position the thumb
Phase 2: opposotion component includes a combination of thumb flexion, adduction and medial rotation
Intermetacarpal joints
Formed between metacarpals 2-3, 3-4, and 4-5
Share joint capsule with CMC joints of fingers
Plane

Metacarpophalangeal joints
Head of metacarpals and base of proximal phalanges in front
Condyloid

MCP joint - collateral ligament tension
Slack during extension and tight during flexion
Causes the MCP joints to simultaneously adduct during flexion
MCP palmar ligaments
In the front, it is fibrocartilaginous
MCP - deep transverse ligament
Connects the palmar ligaments of metacarpals 2-5
Holds the head of the metacarpals together

MCP joint movement
Flexion, extension, abduction, adduction
Thumb: flexion/extension
Interphalangeal joint
Head of phalanges to base of phalanges in front
Hinge
