Tissue
A collection of similar cells and the substance/material between them that serves a specific function.
Epithelium
One of the four types of tissues found in the body.
Connective Tissue
One of the four types of tissues, providing support and connection for other tissues and organs.
Muscle Tissue
One of the four tissue types, responsible for movement.
Nervous Tissue
One of the four tissue types; Includes neurons and neuroglial cells.
Simple Epithelium
A single layer of epithelial cells.
Stratified Epithelium
Multiple layers of epithelial cells.
Pseudostratified Epithelium
Epithelium that appears to have multiple layers but is actually a single layer.
Transitional Epithelium
Epithelium capable of distention.
Connective Tissue Proper
A classification of connective tissue including Loose and Dense connective tissues.
Loose Connective Tissue
Connective tissue with fewer fibers and more ground substance (Areolar, Adipose, Reticular).
Dense Connective Tissue
Connective tissue with more fibers and less ground substance (Regular, Irregular, Elastic).
Cartilage
A type of supporting connective tissue with a semisolid matrix (Hyaline, Fibrocartilage, Elastic).
Bone
A type of supporting connective tissue with a solid matrix (Compact, Spongy).
Fluid Connective Tissue
Connective tissue including blood.
Skeletal Muscle
A type of muscle tissue.
Cardiac Muscle
A type of muscle tissue found in the heart.
Smooth Muscle
A type of muscle tissue.
Neurons
The functional unit of nervous tissue.
Neuroglial cells
Supporting cells found in nervous tissue.
