Specific names for the item - are always capitalised
What are concrete nouns?
Tangible, physical items
What are abstract nouns?
Intangible, non- physical items
What are collective nouns?
Referred to a group of people, animal, or things
What are count nouns?
Able to be counted - have plural form
What are mass nouns?
Cannot be counted - have no plural form
What are verbs?
Words that describe actions, states, or processes
What are the two types of main verbs?
Regular and irregular
What are regular verbs?
Follows typical patterns to change its form/meaning

What are irregular verbs?
Follows atypical patterns to change its form/meaning

What are adjectives?
Describes qualities and attributes of nouns and are usually gradable

That seems that describe, modify, or quantify verbs, adjectives, other adverbs, and sentences

Lexemes that express emotions, sometimes request or demands, and capable of standing alone

What are prepositions? Give an example
Words that express the relationship between a noun and another element in a sentence
e.g. " he went into the room " " bag on the table..."
What are determiners?
Words that provide clarification about a noun, specify quantity, or indicate possession
e.g. " that is my book " " seven turtles, for the first time..."
What are conjunctions?
Words that join other lexemes, phrases, clauses, or sentences together
What are the two kinds of conjunctions?
Subordinating and coordinating
What are coordinating conjunctions?
Join syntactic units of equal value, showing equality/equivalent
e.g. " we can watch a movie or we can go for a run "
What is the acronym for coordinating conjunctions?
FANBOYS = for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so
What are subordinating conjunctions?
Joints clauses and sentences together to show a parent -child relationship
e.g. " although I had a test, I stayed home because I was sick "
What are auxiliary verbs?
Verbs that show grammatical tenses when the main verb cannot without inflection morphemes
e.g. " i am eating " " they were eating "
What are the three types/forms of auxiliary verbs?
To be, to have, to do
What are model verbs?
Verbs that express the possibility, ability, intent, obligation, or necessity of an action occurring
e.g. " this may happen " " I will do it "
