Acute Bronchitis
A respiratory disorder often caused by frequent URI or smoking, characterized initially by a cough with no sputum that later becomes purulent.
Stridor and Wheezing
Clinical manifestations associated with Acute Bronchitis, along with fever, chills, headache, and malaise.
Pleuritic Pain
A type of chest pain that is a clinical manifestation of Pneumonia.
Pneumonia Diagnostics
Assessment tools including History and Physical Exam, bloodwork (CBC, Chem 7, CRP), Sputum culture, ABGs, Blood Culture, and Chest X-ray.
Levofloxacin (Levaquin)
An antibiotic used in the medical treatment of pneumonia, sometimes administered alongside Zosyn or Azithromycin.
Atelectasis
One of the potential complications of pneumonia involving the collapse of lung tissue.
Empyema
A complication of pneumonia characterized by the collection of pus in the pleural cavity.
Good lung DOWN
A specific positioning intervention used for pneumonia patients to improve oxygenation and ventilation.
COPD Earliest Sign
Cough, which eventually progresses to dyspnea and increased sputum production.
VQ scan
A diagnostic test used in the evaluation of COPD to assess airflow and blood flow in the lungs.
Bullectomy
A surgical procedure for COPD that involves the removal of dilated air spaces (bullae) in the lung.
Cor Pulmonale
A complication of COPD involving right-sided heart failure resulting from pulmonary hypertension.
Polycythemia
A complication of COPD where the body produces an excess of red blood cells to compensate for chronic hypoxia.
COPD Nutrition
A healing diet characterized by low carb intake, high fats, and high calorie foods, with liquids taken only between meals.
Latent Tuberculosis
A form of TB where the patient is infected but exhibits no symptoms.
Hemoptysis
The coughing up of blood, which is a clinical manifestation of active Tuberculosis.
PPD Test
A diagnostic skin test used to screen for Tuberculosis exposure.
QuantiFERON
A specialized blood test used to diagnose Tuberculosis.
RIPE regimen
The standard protocol for medical treatment of active and latent Tuberculosis.
DOT (Directly Observed Therapy)
A protocol used in Tuberculosis treatment to ensure medication compliance by having a healthcare provider observe the patient taking their doses.
