Two mechanisms to regulate homeostasis:
Autoregulation (Intrinsic Regulation):
When an organ, cell, or tissue automatically regulates its activity in response to a change in its environment.
Extrinsic regulation:
When an organ system is regulated by the nervous system or endocrine system in respsonse to an external (outside) change.

A receptor: (sensor) Detects a change (stimulus) in the internal (inside) and external (outside) environment.
A Control center (decision maker): Receives information from the receptor and determines what response is needed.
An Effector (Responder) : Carries out the response that helps correct the change.

Negative Feedback: Maintains homeostasis by opposing or reducing the (change) effects of a stimulus.
