Weavers marched in their blankets to protest poor factory conditions

Aims: better pay and conditions in textile mills

Outcome: provoked a heavy-handed response from Stockport authorities, almost resulting in the death of a blanketeer, did not achieve aims

A violent protest lead by bacon (possibly provoked by an agent provocateur)

Aim: overthrow the government

Outcome: aim not achieved, was suppressed by the local yeomanry, Brandreth was executed in 1817 for his involvement

1819

A crowd of 60,000 had gathered at st Peter's fields to hear Henry “the orator” Hunt speak about the need for parliamentary reform

Aim: peacefully protest the government

Outcome: the local authorities panicked and unleashed the yeomanry which caused 11 deaths and 400 casualties, resulted in the six acts/gagging acts being passed that same year

A plan from Thistlewood to assassinate the entire government

Aim: kill the government

Outcome: did not work as it was uncovered by infamous agent provocateur Oliver the spy, Thistlewood and his co-conspirators were executed

When and what was Luddism (years), what was its aim and what was its outcome?

1811-16

Handloom weavers destroyed machinery to protest increased mechanisation

Aim: get rid of the machines so they could go back to their jobs as they blamed the machines for unemployment

Outcome: did not achieve its aim as it wasn't large or organised enough. Resulted in the frame breaking act of 1812 which made luddism punishable by transportation to Australia.

A chaotic protest organised by the spencians

Aim: to protest for political rights by taking over the bank of England

Outcome: failed as it was uncovered by agent provocateurs

When and what was the queen Caroline affair (years), what was its aim and what was its outcome?

1820-21

There was a divorce, Caroline threw a tantrum and the government wasted loads of money

Aim: Caroline wanted to inherit the English throne after her divorce from the prince regent

Outcome: whilst she did not get the throne, the government gave her a £50,000 settlement only for her to die a few months later.
