What is a force
A force is that quantity that changes a body’s size, shape, motion, direction and state of rest.
What are forces measured in?
Newtons
What are all the two types of forces?
Contact and Non-contact
What is a contact force
A force that physically touches.
What is a Non - Contact Force
A force that acts in a field.
What are all the types of contact forces
Normal force, Applied force, Tension force, Frictional force, Weight force and Lift force
What is a Normal force? (Fn)
A support force exerted on a object by another stable force
What is an Applied Force? (Fa)
Force placed on another object through push and pull motion by another body/object
What is a Tension force? (Ft)
Forced applied through a rope, cord, spring ect by forces from opposite directions.
What is a Frictional Force (Ff)
Force that opposes motion
What is a Weight force? (Fw)
Force that a body/object has due to gravity
What is a Lift force? (Fl)
An aerodynamic force perpendicular to the objects direction
What are the Cause of friction?
Friction is caused when two surfaces come in contact with eachother
Factors that determine friction
Weight of object, Area of Surface and Velocity/speed of the moving object
Where does Friction occur?
Friction occurs in air resistance, drag, grip
Usefulness of Friction
Braking, Walking and Building
Uselessness of Friction
Wear and tear of machinery, Makes things hot and can cause expenses due to replacing worn out parts
Ways to reduce friction
Smoother surfaces, Grease/Lubricant, Wheels/rollers and Stream Lining Shapes
