What is the anatomical position?
The anatomical position is standing erect, face forward, with feet parallel, arms at the sides, and palms facing forward.
What does the term 'superior' mean in directional terms?
Superior (or cranial or cephalic) means toward the head or upper body.
Define the difference between the dorsal and ventral cavities.
The dorsal (posterior) cavity is located on the back of the body, while the ventral (anterior) cavity is located on the front of the body.
What bodily position is described as lying face upward?
The supine position is lying face upward, on your back.
What are the five sets of vertebrae in the spinal column?
The five sets are: 7 cervical (C), 12 thoracic (T), 5 lumbar (L), 5 fused sacral vertebrae, and 1 coccyx.
What does the term 'proximal' refer to in anatomy?
Proximal refers to body parts that are close to a point of reference of the body.
What are the four abdominal quadrants?
The four quadrants are right upper quadrant (RUQ), left upper quadrant (LUQ), right lower quadrant (RLQ), and left lower quadrant (LLQ).
What is the purpose of using body planes in anatomy?
Body planes are used to divide the body into specific sections for better understanding and communication.
What does 'medial' refer to?
Medial refers to body parts located near the middle or midline of the body.
How is a hernia defined in medical terms?
A hernia is a tear in the muscle wall that allows a structure to protrude through.
What is the function of Fowler's position in patient care?
Fowler's position involves sitting in bed with the head elevated to facilitate breathing and comfort for bedridden patients.
What is the median plane?
The median (or midsagittal) plane divides the body into right and left halves.
Describe what the term 'anterior' means.
Anterior (or ventral) refers to body parts that are towards or on the front of the body.
What organs are found in the thoracic cavity?
The thoracic cavity contains the lungs and large blood vessels.
What is the hypogastric region?
The hypogastric region lies inferior to the umbilical area.
