Solid

rigid with definite shape/volume and has vibrating particles

Liquid

flowing with definite volume and shape of container, particles slide and are close

Gas

flowing with no definite volume or shape, particles bounce

1 type of atom found on periodic table that can only be separated by nuclear reaction

Compound

2+ bonded atoms that have properties different from their elements and can be separated by chemical change

Pure Substance

matter with same fixed composition and properties

Heterogeneous Mixture

combo of 2+ substances where the substances are distinct

Homogeneous Mixture

substances are uniform and appear as one substance

Physical Change

appearance of matter changed but it remains the same substance

Physical Property

can be observed without chemically changing the substance into a new substance

Chemical Change

when the chemical composition of a substance changes

can only be observed by changing chemical composition of a substance
