Periodic Table
A tabular arrangement of elements based on their atomic number, electron configuration, and recurring chemical properties.
Effective Nuclear Charge
The net positive charge experienced by an electron in a multi-electron atom, accounting for shielding by other electrons.
Ionization Energy
The energy required to remove an electron from an atom or ion in the gaseous state.
Electron Affinity
The energy change associated with the addition of an electron to a gaseous atom.
Cations
Positively charged ions that are formed when atoms lose electrons.
Anions
Negatively charged ions that are formed when atoms gain electrons.
Isoelectronic
A term used to describe ions or atoms that have the same number of electrons.
Alkali Metals
Group 1A elements that are soft, highly reactive metals.
Alkaline Earth Metals
Group 2A elements known for their reactivity and tendency to form +2 cations.
Metallic Character
A set of properties associated with metals, including luster, conductivity, and malleability.
