Ensure that client is supine in bed and intruct client to inform you if pain is experienced during exercise
After client is in supine position and instructions are given, what is the next step (4)?
While supporting the leg at knee and ankle, bend the knee and then return leg to client's normal position (flexion/extension) (AT LEAST 3 TIMES unless pain is verbalized); Move joints gently, slowly, and smoothly through the range of motion, discontinuing exercise if client verbalizes pain

While supporting the foot and ankle close to the bed, push/pull foot toward head (dorsiflexion), and push/pull foot down, toes point down (plantar flexion) (AT LEAST 3 TIMES unless pain is verbalized); Move joints gently, slowly, and smoothly through the range of motion, discontinuing exercise if client verbalizes pain
