Philosopher. Stated that humans are evil, selfish beings that should be governed by one person to keep humans in line.

Philosopher. Stated the humans can and are good beings. Humans should be governed by a group of people. ( Think declaration of independence)

Montesquieu

Philosopher. Worked on the separation of the Government. (The three branches of government) Each branch has equal power over each other through checks and balances.

Rousseau

Philosopher. He wanted what's best for the group that can make them successful. (The general will)

Philosopher. Believed in freedom of speech and press. (Think 1st amendment)

Mary Wollstonecraft

First feminist/woman's right activist. Wanted equal rights, education, and politics with men.

Robespierre

The main cause of the Reign of Terror. (Brought france to corruption) Believed in executions were a natural thing and encouraged them.

Lord Lugard

He tried to "justify" the colonization of Africa by saying its a win win. (Can civilize the natives while making money profit)

King Leopold II

Terrible king that was handed the Congo and treated the people terribly by forcing them to be free labor and killing 10 million people.

Cecil Rhodes

Part of the British colonizers. Worked in the gold and diamond business. Made a profit for buying lots of gold and diamond mines.

Mohandas Gandhi

A leader of the Nationalist Congress in India. Brought India to independence from the British through non-violence.
