smooth muscle tissue

surrounds blood vessels and walls of organs; No striations, Spindle shaped, centrally located nuclei, involuntary control, can divide

Cardiac muscle

generates forceful contractions of the heart; Striations (stripes), Branching-fibers, Involuntary control, Cannot divide, centrally located nuclei

nervous tissue

Impulse transmitting cells, Star-like appearance, Highly sensitive to external stimuli, Longest cells in the body, Incapable of cell reproduction

neurons

specialized nerve cells that transmit electrical and chemical signals throughout the body

neuroglia

non-neuronal support cells in the nervous system that protect, nourish, and maintain the balance of neurons
