Kinematics
the study of motion without considering its causes
Position
the location of an object at any particular time
Reference Frame
the position of an object as it relates to stationary objects
Displacement
the net change in position of an object (written as Δd)
Magnitude
the size or amount, of distance traveled
Scalar
a quantity, that has magnitude and sometimes a sign but no direction
Vector
a quantity, that has both magnitude and direction
Distance
an object moves is the length of the path between its initial and final position
Speed
the rate at which an object changes its location
Average Speed
the distance traveled divided by the time during which the motion occurs
Instantaneous Speed
the speed of a specific instant in time
Velocity
the speed and direction of an object
Average Velocity
the displacement divided by the time over which displacement occurs (Δd/ /Δt)
Instantaneous Velocity
the velocity at a specific instant in time
Independent Variable
the horizontal axis
Dependent Variable
the vertical axis
Tangent
a straight line
Acceleration
the rate of change of velocity
