Nervous System
The system made by a group of specific organs that allows us to react to stimulus and changes in the environment.
Central Nervous System
Brain and Spinal cord.
Peripheral Nervous System
Sensory and Motor
Autonomic Nervous System
Sympathetic and Parasympathetic
Neuron
The basic cell of the nervous system.
Brain
The largest and uppermost part of the central nervous system that controls and coordinates all parts of the body.
Meninges
The three layers of membrane covering the brain.
Three layers of meninges
Dura matter, pia matter, and arachnoid.
Function of Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF)
Protection and nutrition to the brain.
Cerebrum
The largest part of the brain, responsible for coordinating and controlling various activities of the body.
Functions of Cerebrum
Controls speech, memory, hearing, consciousness, thought, and stimulus.
Cerebellum
The second largest part of the brain, responsible for coordinating timing of muscular movement and maintaining equilibrium.
Functions of Cerebellum
Controls muscular movement and maintain equilibrium.
Medulla Oblongata
Located on the lower part of the brain, it controls involuntary actions.
Functions of Medulla Oblongata
Regulates respiration and controls vomiting, coughing, sneezing, and swallowing.
Spinal Cord
A long, jelly-like structure that passes from the base of the medulla oblongata to the second lumbar vertebrae; communicates between body and brain.
Nerve fibers
Act as a messenger to brain or spinal cord
Afferent or Sensory Nerve
Transmits the nerve impulse from receptor to brain or spinal cord.
Efferent or Motor Nerve
Sends the message or nerve impulse from brain or spinal cord to different parts of the body.
Reflex Action
A sudden and involuntary response to the stimulus shown by our body when touched to any object.
