-에

directional particle (to) indicates movement to a place

• e.g. 은행에 가요

• e.g. 공원에 가요

• e.g. 수미씨 어디 가세요?

also used to refer to the time of doing something

• e.g. 일요일에 공부해요 (I study on Sundays)

• e.g. 아침에 우유를 사요 (in the morning, I buy milk)

when can -에 be omitted

can be omitted from colloquial speech, but not from words of single syllables

• e.g. 어디 가요 / 어디에 가요

• e.g. 집에 가요 / 집 가요

-다니다

similar to 가다, but refers to multiple trips (such as attending university)

• e.g. 어느 대학교에 다녀요? (which university do you attend?)

• e.g. 어느 교회(에) 다니시요? (which church do you attend?)

• e.g. 체육관에 다녀요? (which gym do you go to?)

다녀오겠습니다

bye (said by someone who will come back later)

• e.g. coworker to coworker

갔다 올께

bye (if said by someone more senior) casual

• e.g. boss, husband, wife

“I’m back home” (just come back home after leaving for a short time)
