What are the three types of muscles in the human body?
Cardiac muscle, Skeletal muscle, Smooth muscle.
What is the main characteristic of skeletal muscle?
Skeletal muscle is striated and under voluntary control.
What is a sarcomere?
The smallest unit in a muscle that contracts.
Which muscle type is primarily responsible for endurance activities?
Slow-twitch muscle fibers.
What color are slow-twitch muscle fibers and why?
Red; due to the presence of myoglobin which stores oxygen for aerobic respiration.
What is the difference between isometric and concentric muscle contractions?
Isometric contractions involve no motion, while concentric contractions involve muscle shortening to create movement.
What percentage of RM is associated with myofibrillar hypertrophy?
80% or more of RM.
What are the two types of fast-twitch muscle fibers?
Type 2a and Type 2b fast-twitch muscle fibers.
What does muscle hypertrophy refer to?
The increase in muscle fiber size as a result of resistance training.
What is muscle endurance?
The ability of the muscle to hold or repeat a contraction without fatigue.
