Assimilation
The process by which individuals or groups adopt the culture of a dominant group, often losing aspects of their original identity in the process.
Acculturation
The blending or exchange of cultural traits resulting from contact between cultures, where both sides may change to some extent.
Microaggression
Subtle, often unintentional comments or actions that express prejudice toward marginalized groups.
Code-switching
The practice of shifting between languages or styles of speech depending on the social context or audience.
Intersectionality
A framework for understanding how different aspects of a person's identity (such as race, gender, class) overlap and create unique experiences of discrimination or privilege.
Cultural appropriation
The use of elements of one culture by members of another (typically a dominant group) often without permission or understanding.
Stereotype
An oversimplified and fixed idea about a particular group of people, often based on assumptions rather than facts.
Marginalization
The social process of making certain groups feel insignificant, powerless, or excluded from mainstream society.
Diaspora
The dispersion of people from their original homeland, and the communities formed as a result of that movement.
Identity
The qualities, beliefs, and expressions that make a person or group who they are, shaped by culture, experience, and environment.
