How will I overcome these challenges

I plan on overcoming these challenges mentally by making friends. I am personally someone who can communicate very well and talk to people. I am someone whom is independent however do not like being alone. Missing my family and friends will be a huge mental challenge for me personally, but I know I am mentally strong and know I can make new friends. Physically, I am aware for the first bit of the training that it will be long days with little rest but I am strong physically as well, I do go to the gym 5 days a week as well as doing muay thai training 5 times per week too.

Why would you like to join the ADF?

I would love to join the ADF because my Oupa served for his country in South Africa and he has always been the person I look up to the most in my life. After Kapooka seeing him smiling watching me graduate will be one of the best senses of pride. I also want to join the ADF because of the honour of serving my country that has done so much for me in keeping me safe. I really value the fact that people have served and sacraficed themselves just so we could be in the position we are in. The values of the army specifically resonates a lot with me. The words service, courage, respect, integrity and excellence. Over the past year I have learnt a lot of discipline, I had lost a good amount of weight getting into the gmy and being more active. I currently still go gym and do muay thai. Muay thai training has helped me find myself and also been a great way of getting fit physically and mentally but also a sport that I reallly enjoy. if you have a bad day I always know I can go and do it. Another Reason that joining the ADF is something I want to do is, helping out with disasters around the world and in Australia. Even though I will not exactly be on the field, working on nequipment and vehicles still help the frontline when in combat. Last and probably the biggest has to be the benfits. The 4.4% extra super that you get is a huge increase, meaning one day when I retire I can live comfortably and support my family. The help on home loan is huge especially with the current house market and the house prices keep on booming. Free medical, dental and healthcare for myself and my family as well. Plus fully paid training qualifications and getting paid to do it.

Why have you chosen the army?

I have chosen the army out of all three of the services due to the history and values that they stand by. I didn’t want to go navy because I am not the biggest fan of living out at sea on a boat. Air force I could have done but I ultimately chose the army especially since it had the jobs I wanted there. I also prefer to stay on land rather than in the air or ocean. I really like the values of the army. Service, courage, integrity, excellence and respect.

What do the values of the army mean to you

I feel that these values resonate a lot with me. Over the past year I have started training muay thai, it is almost like kick boxing. I have learnt to respect people through that I think the discipline in that also help gain courage for whatever gets thrown at me. Being born in Australia and living here my whole life, I have always thought about being in the army specificallly since I was a kid getting pushed by my family. So to serve will mean a lot and be an extreme honour to become a soldier and protect my country. Integrity is also super important to be honest with yourself and do the right thing. Excellence I can see as I am a very commited individual.
