Transcription initiation
RNA poly. binds to sigma which binds to the promoter causing DNA to unwind; NTPs present
Transcription elongation
RNA poly. reads template strand and builds complementary base strand
Transcription termination
RNA poly. reaches termination sequence and releases completed mRNA strand
Transcription initiation (eukaryotic)
TATA binding proteins recognize and bind to the TATA box (upstream of the transcription site) and help position DNA poly.
Translation initiation
SRS binds to mRNA at the start codon (AUG). tRNA carrying methionine pairs with the start codon and LRS joins to complete ribosome.
Translation elongation
Ribosome reads codons along the RNA and they are matched with complementary tRNA seq. with specific amino acids. Ribosome catalyzes peptide bond formation, creating polypep. chain
Translation initiation (prokaryotic)
SRS binds to Shine-Dalgarno sequence to align the start codon. tRNA containing fMet pairs with the start codon
Stop codons
UAA, UAG, UGA
Translation initiation (eukaryotic)
SRS starts at 5’ cap and scans until AUG is found. Met binds to it.
