Bone
Description: Hard calcified mantric containing many collagen fibers; osteocytes lie in the lacunae. *well vascular

Hyaline Cartilage
Description: Firm matrix, collagen fibers form network, and chondrocytes lie in the lacunae
Function: Supports and reinforces, serves as a cushion, and resists compressive stress
Location: Forms embryonic skeleton, covers the end of long bones, forms coastal cartilage of the ribs

Fibrocartilage
Description: Matrix similar to but less first than matrix in hyaline cartilage. Thick collage fibers prominent.
Function: Tensile strength with the ability to absorb compressive shock
Location: Intervertebral Dics

Regular (dense)
Description: Primarily parallel collagen fibers, some elastic fibers
Function: Attaches muscle to bones or muscles to muscles. Can withstand great tensile stress when pulling force is applied in one direction
Location: Tendons and Ligaments

Areolar (loose)
Description: Gel-like matrix with all three fiber types. Contains fibroblasts, macrophage, mast cells, and some white blood cells.
Function: Wraps and cushions organs
Location: Forms lamina proprio (underneath epithelial tissue)

Adipose (loose)
Description: Closely packed fat cells in the matrix have nucleus pushed to the side my a large fat droplet
Function: Provides reserve fuel, insulates, and protects organs
Location: under the skin, around kidneys and eyeball, abdomen, breasts

Reticular (loose)
Description: Network of reticular fibers in a typical loose ground substance; reticular cells lie on the network.
Function: Fibers form a soft internal skeleton that supports other cells types, including white blood cells, mast cells, and macrophages.
Location: Lymphoid Organs

Blood
Description: Red and while cells in a fluid matrix (plasma)
Function: Transport of respiratory gasses, nutrients, wastes, etc.
Location: Contained within blood vessels

Elastic Cartilage
Description: Has more elastic fibers in the matrix then hyaline cartilage
Function: Maintains the shape of a structure while allowing great flexibility
Location: Supports the external ear, epiglottis

Dense irregular CT
Description: Primarily irregularly arranged collagen fibers, some elastic fibers
Function: Able to withstand tension extorted in amy directions and provides structural strength
Location: Dermis of the skin and fibrous capsules of organs and joints

Elastic Connective Tissue
Description: Dense regular connective tissue containing a high proportion of elastic fibers
Function: Allows recoil of tissues following stretching, allows pulsating flow through arterial walls
Location: Walls of the large arteries
