what are the components of a Feedback loop
receptor, integrating center, the effector
Steps of scientific method
obeservation
Hypothesis
experiment
dedcutive method
theoretical science- uses logic to get a conclusion
inductive method
experimental science- perform experiments to gather data
Negative Feedback loop
primary mechanism used to maintain homeostasis- senses change and body activates a self-regulating mechanism to reverse it
Positive Feedback Loop
self-amplifying cycle that changes the set point of homeostasis to allow a greater change in the same direction and produces a rapid change
what are effectors usually?
muscles
what is a blind study
used so the subjects don’t know if they are receiving placebo or drug to maintain accurate test results
what is a hypothesis
a question that is the baseline for an experiment and is able to be tested to either refute or agree with.
Control Group
a standard baseline that does not receive treatment to see the real measure
what is homeostasis
homeostasis is a process to maintain constancy of the internal environment (ex. temperature) controlled by negative feedback system
change in stimulus is detected by…
receptors
response of the change is carried out by…
the effector
type of response is determined by
integrating center/ control center
where is the integrator usually located
nervous system (brain and spine) in the hypothalamus portion of the brain
the receptor communicates with the
integrating control which in return controls the effector
