Law of conservation of mass
Mass is not created or destroyed in a chemical reaction.
Relative atomic mass (Ar)
The average mass of an atom compared to 1/12 the mass of a carbon-12 atom.
Relative formula mass (Mr)
The sum of the relative atomic masses of all atoms in a formula.
Mole
A unit representing 6.022 x 10^23 particles (Avogadro's number).
Concentration
The amount of solute in a given volume of solution.
Limiting reactant
The reactant that is completely used up first and limits the amount of product formed.
Titration
An experiment to find the exact volume of acid/alkali needed to neutralise the other.
Percentage yield
A comparison of the actual yield to the theoretical yield.
Atom economy
A measure of how many atoms in the reactants end up in the useful products.
Volume of one mole of gas at RTP
24 dm³.
