usually holds several liters on its tank; eventually empties when lever/ push button is activated. when activated, blockade is lifted and thus the water can flow down into the bow
Flush tank
a type of water closet that requires little pressure, highly efficient (doest use more than necessary) and easy to install however it resets slowly (tank may fill within 20s or less) and requires a lot of maintenance
flush tank
a type of water closet wherein water does not get into a tank but instead goes directly into the bowl; with special one way valve that lets water go through when lever is activated; the lever pulls a chain/chord that attaches to a flapper or blockage. this blockage prevents the water from the plumbing system from entering the bowl
direct flush valve
a water closet that works fast and conveniently, no need to wait for tank to fills before flushing, less noise and easy maintanance. however, it requires high water pressure and tricky to repair and install
direct flush valve
cistern sits directly on the back of the toilet pan
close coupled water closet
where the toilet pan fits against the wall or a piece of furniture and a concealed cistern provides the water for flushing
back to wall
hangs on a sturdy metal frame and suspended above the floor, the water for flushing is supplied by a concealed cistern
wall hung
cistern is fitted to the wall and connected to the toilet pan by a length of chrome pipe
