Whats first ionisation energy
The energy needed to remove one mole of electrons from one mole of atoms in their gaseous state to form one mole of 1+ ions (also in gaseous state)
What happens to first ionisation of energy across period
Increases as we move across period from left to right
Moving across period, pos charge in nucleus increases, as number of protons increases
Increases the attraction between the nucleus and the electrons, so atomic radius decreases across a period.
So outer electrons more attracted to nucleus, causes the first ionisation energy to increase across a period
