Solubility
The ability of a substance to dissolve in a solvent.
Ionic charge
The net charge of an ion, determined by the loss or gain of electrons.
Lattice enthalpy
The change in enthalpy when one mole of an ionic compound is formed from its gaseous ions.
Electronegativity
A measure of the tendency of an atom to attract a bonding pair of electrons.
Covalent bond
A chemical bond that involves the sharing of electron pairs between atoms.
Dipole
A pair of equal and opposite electric charges or magnetic poles separated by a distance.
Molecular geometry
The three-dimensional arrangement of atoms in a molecule.
Bond length
The distance between the nuclei of two bonded atoms.
Ionic compound
A compound formed by the electrostatic attraction between oppositely charged ions.
Reaction enthalpy
The heat change associated with a chemical reaction.
