Muscles
A tissue of the body consisting of long cells that can contract and produce motion.
Tendons
A tissue that connects muscle to bone. Made of fibrous connective tissue.
Involuntary muscles
Muscles that are NOT under conscious control (e.g., stomach and heart).
Voluntary muscles
Muscles that you CAN control (e.g., arms and legs).
Skeletal Muscle
Striated, voluntary muscle tissue.
Smooth Muscle
Squamous, involuntary muscle tissue.
Cardiac Muscle
Striated and branched, involuntary muscle tissue.
Strain
When a muscle or tendon tears.
Tendonitis
Irritation of the tendon.
Muscular Dystrophy
A disease that weakens the muscle.
Fibromyalgia
Chronic muscle pain.
Tetanus
Paralyzing bacterial infection that causes painful muscle contractions.
Aerobic exercise
Increases muscular endurance.
Anaerobic exercise
Increases muscular strength.
Flexible exercise
Improves muscular range of motion.
