Rituelen
Powerful actions that have a deeper meaning and often involve specific objects, words, or gestures.
Verbond
An agreement between two people or groups who make promises to each other, typically expressed through a symbol or gesture.
Transcendent
Originating from the Latin 'transcendere', meaning to surpass or exceed what is directly observable (the immanent).
Immanent
Originating from the Latin 'immanere' (to indwell); in a religious context, it refers to the presence of the divine within creation.
Hostie
Derived from the Latin word 'hostia', meaning (slaughter) sacrifice; it represents the body of Christ in the Eucharist.
Eucharistie
The central sacrament of God's presence where Christians relive the actions of Jesus at the Last Supper.

Author (1892-1973) who suggested the world would be happier if we valued food, cheer, and song as much as hoarded gold.
Simon (the Pharisee)
The host who invited Jesus to eat but failed to wash Jesus' feet, greet him with a kiss, or anoint his head with oil.
Altaar (Altar)
A ritual table that refers to a manger, a tomb, the table of the Last Supper, or the throne of God.
Ciboria
A small bowl containing small hosts that refers to the Virgin Mary, who carried Jesus in her womb.
Kelk (Chalice)
A cup containing wine that refers to the blood of Christ and reconciliation for the sins of man.

Fidelity to the apostles' teaching, forming a community, breaking bread, and dedication to prayer (Hnd2,42).
Onzevader (Our Father)
A model prayer consisting of three 'your-petitions' (God's dream) and three 'our-petitions' (human needs).
Iftar
The ritual meal in Islam where believers break their fast together.
Seidermaaltijd
A Jewish ritual meal during which a chair may be left empty for an unknown guest.
Koosjer (Kosher)
Jewish dietary laws that distinguish between permitted and non-permitted foods.
Halal
Islamic dietary laws distinguishing permitted foods from those that are prohibited (haram).
Chameets
Leavened food products that Jews remove or clean away as a ritual preparation.
Bismillah
An Islamic phrase meaning 'In the name of God,' used at the table.
Pateen
A large bowl used to hold the large host during the Eucharist.
