Scaphoid
Boat-shaped carpal on the thumb side; articulates with the radius and the trapezium/trapezoid.
Lunate
Moon-shaped central proximal carpal; articulates with radius, capitate, hamate, scaphoid, and triquetrum.
Triquetrum
Three-sided carpal on the pinky side; articulates with pisiform, hamate, and lunate.
Pisiform
Pea-shaped carpal on top of triquetrum; provides tendon attachment for flexor carpi ulnaris.
Trapezium
Wedge-shaped carpal under the thumb; articulates with the 1st metacarpal to enable thumb mobility.
Trapezoid
Wedge-shaped carpal between trapezium and capitate; articulates with the 2nd metacarpal.
Capitate
Largest carpal in the center; articulates with the 3rd metacarpal.
Hamate
Hook-shaped carpal on the pinky side; articulates with the 4th and 5th metacarpals.
Talus
Tarsal that forms the ankle joint; sits atop the calcaneus and articulates with the tibia and fibula.
Calcaneus
Heel bone; largest tarsal; attachment point for the Achilles tendon.
Navicular
Boat-shaped bone anterior to the talus; articulates with the medial, intermediate, and lateral cuneiforms.
Medial Cuneiform
Under the 1st metatarsal (big toe).
Intermediate Cuneiform
Under the 2nd metatarsal.
Lateral Cuneiform
Under the 3rd metatarsal.
Cuboid
Cube-shaped bone on the lateral foot; under the 4th and 5th metatarsals.
Frontal
Forehead bone forming part of the skull’s front; articulates with parietals, nasal bones, and zygomatic bones.
Parietal
Two bones forming the roof and sides of the skull; articulates with the frontal, occipital, temporal, and sphenoid.
Temporal
Bones on the lower sides of the skull; contain the ear canal and mastoid process; articulates with the parietal, occipital, sphenoid, and zygomatic.
Occipital
Back of the skull; contains the foramen magnum; articulates with the atlas (C1) and other cranial bones.
Sphenoid
Butterfly-shaped bone at the base of the skull; articulates with frontal, parietal, temporal, occipital, and ethmoid.
Ethmoid
Light, spongy bone between the eyes; forms part of the nasal cavity and septum; articulates with the sphenoid, frontal, and nasal bones.
