Atomic Radius
The size of an atom, typically increases down a group and decreases across a period.
Ionization Energy
The energy required to remove an outer shell electron from an atom.
Periodic Trends
Patterns observed in the properties of elements as you move across or down the periodic table.
Francium (Fr)
The largest atom on the periodic table.
Electron Shells
Regions surrounding the nucleus of an atom where electrons are likely to be found.
Metallic Character
The tendency of an element to exhibit properties of metals, such as electrical conductivity and malleability.
Nonmetals
Elements that typically lack metallic properties and are found on the right side of the periodic table.
Group 1 Elements
Elements like hydrogen, lithium, and sodium, where atomic size increases down the group.
Sodium vs Rubidium
Sodium has higher ionization energy than rubidium.
