how many stages are in the cell cycle?
3 stages, in order: interphase, mitosis, cyptokinesis.
what does the interphase do?
growth, metabolic reactions, DNA replicates, manufactures of sub cellular structures
what does mitosis do?
cell division, nucleus divides
what does the cyptokinesis do?
cyptoplasm divides
what is a haploid?
a cell that contains a nucleus with only half the full set of chromosomes. in humans, this is 23 chromosomes.
what is a diploid?
a cell that contains a nucleus with a full set of chromosomes. in humans this is 46 chromosomes (23 from each parent)
what are the 4 stages of MITOSIS?
prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase
what does the prophase do?
chromosomes condense and become visible, nuclear envelope disappears, spindle fibres start forming.
what does the metaphase do?
chromosomes align in the equator of the cell, spindle fibres attach to centrometres in chromosomes.
what does the anaphase do?
chromosomes are pulled apart to opposite poles of the cell
what does the telophase do?
new nuclear envelopes form around each set of chromosomes.
