Epithelial Membrane
Made up of Epithelial tissue
Cutaneous Membrane (Skin)
Has two layers Epidermis and Dermis
Mucous Membrane
Surface Epithelium resting on Areolar Tissue, lines the body cavities that open to the exterior
Serous Membrane
Composed of Simple Sqaumous Epithelium
Parietal Membrane
Outer membrane lining body cavity
Visceral Membrane
Inner Membrane lining body cavity
Serous Fluid
Thin clear fluid that separates serous layers
Peritoneum
The serous mebrane lining the abdominal cavity and covering its organs
Pleura
Each Pair of Serous Membranes lining the Thorax and enveloping lungs
Pericardium
Membrane enclosing the heart, consisting of outer fibrous layer & inner double layer of Serous Membrane
Synovial Membrane
Composed of Areolar Tissue and contain none Epithelial cells, & line Fibrous capsule surrounding the joints
Keratin
Fibrous protein that makes up Epidermis in a tough protective layer
Integumentary System
Skin and its Appendages (Sweat & Oil glands, hair, & nails
Cutaneous Sensory Receptors
Sensory Receptor found in the skin
Epidermis
Outer surface layer often kertainizied
Dermis
Made from Connective Tissue consists of two regions (Areolar Tissue on top, Fibrous Connective Tissue on bottom
Hypodermis (Subcutaneous tissue)
Fat tissue that anchors skin to underlying organs and is not part of the skin
Stratum Basale
Lies closest to Dermis, deepest layer of Epidermis, where skin is produced, goes through Mitosis & Daughter cells are pushed “Upward”
Stratum Germinativum
Also known as stratum Basale, is separated from the dermis by the basement membrane (basal lamina)
Stratum Lucidum
Outermost layer of Epidermis found in thick, hairless skin (Palms of hands & Soles of feet)
Stratum Corneum
Layer with Shingle like cells filled with Keratin (Epidermis) and dead cells
Melanin
A Dark Brown to Black pigment found in hair, skin, iris (Eye), responsible of for tanning of skin exposed to sunlight
Dermal Papillae
Uneven peg like projections from its superficial surface, indent Epidermis, have Capillary loops
Sebaceous Glands
Sweat Glands two Types
Sudoriferous Glands
Oil glands, duct empty hair follicles, lubricates skin, prevents brittle hair, kills bacteria, active during Puberty
Hair Follicle
Compound structure, inner Epithelial Sheath is composed to form the hair
Arrector Pilli
Small bands of Smooth Muscle, connect each hair follicle to the dermal tissue, when contracts creates “Goosebumps”
Lanula
Thickened Nail Matrix that appears as a White Crescent
