What is nicotinic acid/niacin?
An old lipid-lowering drug that lowers LDL, TG, and increases HDL
Why is niacin no longer recommended?
Vasodilatory side effects (flushing)

Binds to hepatic LDL receptors and promotes their lysosomal degradation
