Giving IV Potassium

  • Give carefully!

  • Hyperkalemia can cause fatal cardiac dysrhythmias

  • NEVER give IV push

  • Give slowly, no faster than 10mEq/hr

  • ALWAYS use a pump

  • Can be irritating to the veins
