Quality assurance

Part of quality management focused on providing confidence that quality requirements will be fulfilled.

Quality control

Part of quality management focused on fulfilling quality requirements.

Quality improvement

Part of quality management focused on increasing the ability to fulfil quality requirements.

Principle

A fundamental law / truth / assumption that is verifiable.

PDCA cycle

A method which can be used to create continual improvement in a systematic way.

Plan (PDCA)

Establish the objectives of the system and its processes. Establish resources needed to deliver results in accordance with customers’ requirements and the organisation’s policies.

Do (PDCA)

Implement what was planned.

Check (PDCA)

Monitor and (where applicable) measure processes and the resulting products and services against policies, objectives, requirements and planned activities, and report the results.

Act (PDCA)

Take actions to improve performance, as necessary.

Risk

An uncertain event or set of events which, should it occur, will have an effect (negative / positive) on the achievement of objectives.
